Handyman

professional handyman serviceA good, professional handyman is not an easy thing to find.  First of all, you need to find a jack-of-all trades who isn’t afraid of any job, doesn’t cost an arm-and-a-leg, and owns a watch (oh, and know how to use it)!

And it helps if your professional handyman knows a thing or two about playhouses.

Say again?!?

That’s right: Playhouses.

Recently a former client in Lake Oswego contacted Neil Kelly’s Professional Handyman service with an…well, there’s no other way to put it, odd…request.  They had hired Neil Kelly twice before:  Once to do a kitchen remodeling project, and a second time to deal with some mold issues.  But this time–was  different.  This time–they needed to move a playhouse.

That’s right, a playhouse.

Y’see, instead of spending money on a vacation this year the family thought it would be a good learning experience for the kids to build a two-story playhouse in the wooded backyard of their Lake Oswego home.  The bummer is that different municipalities have different rules about how large of a structure you can build and how close you can build it to the fence line.  And even though this family has a big backyard, they were still limited to how large of a structure they could build.  And the playhouse they built–was seven feet too tall.  So, they called us, and here’s what happened:

We would like to thank Kate and her kin for being willing to share this story. It’s not so much that we want to brag about our professional handyman service (which, clearly, we do), but we think it’s also important to remind everyone that you need to pay heed to building requirements in your municipality, county, and state. Personally, we liked the playhouse when it was at full height. The city of Lake Oswego and the neighborhood HOA–not so much.
