PORTLAND KITCHEN REMODEL

This Portland area kitchen features a new layout, buffet bar, expanded storage and more.

Portland-area clients Jacey and Dave worked with Design Consultant Karen Richmond on this gorgeous kitchen remodel.

Jacey and Dave are well into their 70s and as the heads of their family entertain large groups of people frequently. Having lived in their NE Portland home since it was built in 1968, they felt it was time for an update.

Client Needs / Design Objectives:
• Change dated look and worn materials
• Improve work flow
• Change design to keep guests engaged but out of the cook’s way
• Widen the door between the dining and living room to expand the dining table when entertaining

“By relocating the refrigerator we were able to open up space for a drink and buffet bar – perfect for entertaining.” – Karen Richmond

Design Solutions:
• Relocated the refrigerator out of the traffic pattern and closer to the range and sink
• Former refrigerator space allowed for a drink and buffet bar
• Changed the shape of the awkward island by omitting unused overhangs, expanding to maximizing storage
• Placed the microwave in the island base – out of sight and easy access
• Removed soffits resulting in a cleaner look, expanded storage
• Updated look with new Decor cabinets using light grey laminate on wall cabinets and dark grey on bases
• Fresh look with Pental quartz counters and a striking backsplash from Emser Tile
• New lighting design with can lights and under cabinet lights
• Changed flooring from vinyl to hardwood in kitchen, and expanded hardwood into dining, living and stairs from the entry.
