Spa-Like Transitional Primary Bathroom in Eugene, Oregon
Check out this bathroom remodel in Eugene, Oregon, led by Neil Kelly’s in-house design consultant Stefanie Rotella, that transformed an open-concept carpeted bathroom into a private and practical oasis.
Take a look at the before-and-after photos and details about this bathroom remodel below.
Project Objectives and Client Wishlist
Our client’s primary bathroom was an open-concept space within their carpeted primary bedroom with an enclosed space for the toilet and coffin shower. The existing tub and vanity were completely visible from the primary bedroom through an open archway. Not only that, but the extra-large tub was being used for plants, rather than bathing. Our client’s goals were to enclose the open concept primary bathroom, increase the bathroom’s overall storage, and remove the garden tub, replacing it with a larger walk-in shower.
Our client’s wishlist for this bathroom remodel included:
- Enclose the primary bathroom
- Remove the tub
- Increase shower size
- Maximize storage
Design Challenges and Solutions
After the large tub was removed, we knew the shower would go into this area; we just didn’t know how. The existing footprint was too large, so Rotella proposed using the remaining space for a lowered makeup vanity, which the client loved!
Because the existing bathroom was totally open to the primary bedroom except for the tiny water closet/coffin shower, we designed the bathroom to be enclosed without compromising the feel of either space. We used pocket doors for the water closet and bathroom entrance, as the homeowner doesn’t need it to be closed off often, but wants the opportunity to do so. We were lucky that there were no large challenges within the space beyond configuring the layout.
Special Features, Customizations, and Finished Results
The added niche and hooks on the half-wall between the shower and makeup vanity add practicality, while the pretty tile is like a secret little gem for our client. The symmetrical mirrors are custom-framed to fit perfectly between the vanity tower and walls. Burnished brass fixtures add elegance to the space, and simple framing around the window highlights the stunning treeline view. The stone bench in the shower provides comfort and practicality for long-term use of the space.
Special features and customizations for this bathroom remodel included:
- Decor Cabinets
- Amerock Hardware
- PentalQuartz® counters
- Delta fixtures
- RICHARDS & STERLING tile
