Project Objectives and Client Wishlist

The objective for this remodel was to refresh the primary bathroom, adding some much-needed storage and increasing the size of the cramped, contractor-grade shower.

We also planned to add updated lighting for getting ready and create better function and flow throughout the bathroom, resulting in a more elegant, functional space overall.

Our clients’ wishlist for this bathroom remodel included:

  • Increased storage
  • Larger shower with bench
  • Updated vanity lighting
  • New tile floor
  • Improved function and flow

Design Challenges and Solutions

The details of the shower provided some challenges, between figuring out how the crown molding and wainscot would end or how the overhang of quartz, tile, and glass panel would work together around the shower bench. Our solution allowed us to put a niche on the exterior wall and the finished product works together seamlessly.

Additionally, to remain under the client’s remodel budget we ended up keeping the existing clawfoot tub, even though the clients had mentioned they didn’t like that it was a focal point in the room. After the project was completed, they commented how much they appreciated the clawfoot tub now that the design elements worked so well together.

Special Features, Customizations, and Finished Results

In addition to the customized shower, we created a custom vanity to match a vanity cabinet in their hall bathroom. “When the vanity cabinet we had in mind was no longer in production,” said Stanton, “our team did an incredible job drawing it in CAD to replicate it. We were able to sneak in some additional drawers and storage for the client to make our version even better.”

Special features and customizations for this bathroom remodel included:

  • Kohler sinks
  • Crystal Cabinet Works custom vanity made with quarter-sawn white oak stained “Sepia”
  • Cambria polished quartz countertop in “Black Rock” (also used for shower niche, bench, top of the curb, and top of the half wall)
  • Emser limestone-inspired ceramic floor tile
  • Trinity Surfaces ceramic shower tile in “Mist”
  • Daltile black penny tile
  • Signature Hardware oil-rubbed bronze sink faucets, shower fixtures, toilet tank lever, towel rings, towel bar, and toilet paper holder
  • Signature Hardware solid brass cabinet pulls
  • Signature Hardware Trossman vanity mirror in “Antique Coffee”
